Ceremony Integration
A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Cup
When this journey begins, and we meet Ayahuasca for the first time, we cannot but bring in our expectations, yet as the sacrament unfolds within our consciousness, we realize that it might have a completely different intention and that instead of expectations, we are asked for… acceptations. Allowing the depth to come to the surface and the superficial to affect our depth. Integration means -- making whole, allowing all of our different parts to come and support each other in harmony.
At first, we are overwhelmed by the experience. So much has occurred, yet so little, we find, that we can articulate or even remember. Often, there is much conflict that arises as we dive deeper into ourselves. On one hand, so much beauty and expansion, Divine visions, and Angelic presence, and yet, on the other, fear, pain, and even trauma coming from our distant past. We get a glimpse of untold treasures lying dormant within our consciousness. We have touched places within our hearts that have been forgotten or even never touched. We face our greatest fears and explore our greatest strengths. Most often, having both within the span of one short weekend.
This journey may have taken you to the depths of your soul and deeper into your
consciousness. Introducing you to a new way of seeing the world and your human
existence. Often, different layers of pain are revealed to us: childhood wounding, pre-verbal trauma, abuse, and other painful experiences. These can be experiences we are aware of, yet at times, they are “new” information we may need to process.
As we partake in the Sacrament, we quickly realize that we come in contact with direct experience. The visions, the sights, the expansion of our senses, the profound realizations, and the depth of our truth are hard to ignore. It is a courageous journey that brings about a profound transformation in our relationship to ourselves. It brings about a sense of radical sincerity and the opportunity to relearn how to define the meaning of our lives.
When faced with such a profound shift in reality, we have to remember that integration is an innate human capacity, and all we are asked to do in order to support this process is give it the proper setting and atmosphere to occur on its own. Give ourselves the space and time to allow these seeds of profundity and wisdom to grow and blossom from the inside out. Integration, however, is not a passive process; we are asked to be active participants in our own growth and healing process.
Participating in a sacred ceremony with Ayahuasca is a potentiating spiritual practice that activates and accelerates evolution and growth, provided your intent and approach to this practice are sincere. The ritual experience itself is only one component of walking this path, no matter how powerful or profound. Dedication to the integration period afterward is as equally important to the process of holistic spiritual transformation.
To understand this profound process of integration, we have to make an important distinction about working with Ayahuasca. Opening this door of awareness to the astral and the opportunity to explore our consciousness in this way is regarded as a profound and serious spiritual endeavor. It should not be related to as a recreational experience or a short visit to the Angelic realms. When we truly understand the gravity of this process, we understand it requires our time, presence, and conscious preparation in order to grow and evolve.
The study of our inner world and reality is a delicate one. Often requiring years of practice, study, and dedication. The same as any other spiritual path or religious practice. Drinking the sacrament alone will not suffice to support our spiritual growth and integration of spirit. Along with ceremony and sacrament, the path requires reflection, meditation, therapy, and guidance. Understanding this prior to beginning our journey with the sacrament is of utmost importance.
Having a Strong Why
Before joining these sacred ceremonies, meditate and inquire within. Why am I wishing to participate and bring about such a transformation within myself? Having a strong why, a compelling reason, will be the strength you draw to make the conscious effort and action that is required before, during, and after you partake in the sacrament. Understanding this is a long-term commitment to spiritual growth that will bring about profound shifts in your relationship with yourself. Your strong why will become the courage you’ll need to face your fears, illuminate your shadows, and the anchor that will ground you to sustainable and continuous action to support you in integrating these teachings into your life.
Our why and our intentions are crucial for this profound, lifelong journey of self-discovery and personal transformation. It is the underlying force that keeps us sincere and focused on the transformation that will keep on occurring as we walk this path to fall in love with ourselves. Accepting the different fragments of our mind, spirit, and soul that will be revealed to us during the rituals and as we partake in the sacrament. Our focus on our strong why will allow us to have the courage to witness the patterns of behavior, the unconscious tendencies, and unhealed parts of ourselves that Ayahuasca, as a wise and loving teacher, will reveal to us step by step upon this path.
Within Ceremony
Focus. Hold on to your why and your intentions. As you approach to receive your sacrament, remember that receiving this cup is an act of permission. Permission for yourself to trust and surrender, and permission to the world of Spirit to guide and direct you. Though you have your intentions, try not to have an agenda. How things will come to be is mysterious and full of unexpected twists and turns. Often, we find our intentions are fulfilled but in a completely different way than we could have imagined. Often, Ayahuasca plants seeds of wisdom and truth that might take time to be revealed. It could be hours, days, months, and even years for some of these teachings to take root and blossom into an integrated experience.
During the ceremony, a lot can happen. There are many teachings, and many experiences that are often challenging to put into words. It is recommended to keep a ceremony journal and write, even if in short form, during the ceremony; however, don’t get lost in writing, not allowing the direct experience to expand your heart and leave you situated in your descriptive mind. Remember that you are receiving the guidance and teachings even if you can’t “hold on” to them in your conscious mind. These are seeds of consciousness that will be embedded into your “blood”, into your spiritual DNA, into your subconscious knowing, and your awakening soul.
Try to avoid distractions; witness your mind as it tries to escape. Try, without judgment, to observe your own patterning and the places within you that try to resist or escape. Witness your thoughts and feelings; try not to interpret or give them immediate meaning. Seeing is often freeing, which means what we see are patterns or pain leaving our consciousness. Trying to give an immediate interpretation often limits what Ayahuasca has in store for our evolution and growth. Trust the process, wait, observe, and listen. Allow questions to arise without the need to find an instant resolution. More often than not, the answers will follow later in the form of a teaching, a prayer, or a song.
Try to notice the physical changes in your body, the change in temperature, the tension in your shoulders, the shaking of your hands, or other unexplained physical phenomena. Try to slow down your breath, relax your muscles, and allow your body to surrender and trust. Your body speaks to you and is helping guide this process, learn to listen to its needs, to its language.
With time, as your body becomes more comfortable in its experience of the sacrament, you might be able to notice more of the subtleties of the mind. The natural tendency to judge others, the more subtle resistance to change, the inner dialog and your mind’s language, and eventually, the conflicting patterns that govern your state of being.
Once you learn to observe yourself with sincerity, equanimity, acceptance, and love, your heart will take the front seat, and your journey into the realms of spirit will begin. You’ll be centered and able to soften enough to listen to the whisper of your guiding soul.
During the ceremony, the sacrament allows for the space to think between our thoughts, feel between our feelings, and sense between our senses. Brief moments of clarity and understanding. Our hearts expand, and the meaning we give our lives becomes crystal clear. There’s a profound sense of knowing and remembrance. These are the moments when our healing occurs and our soul finds its way back home, touching the infinite realms of divinity and allowing for transformation to occur. The language of the soul is one of gratitude; try in those moments to pray for yourself and others, to express gratitude, and to appreciate yourself and the totality of this journey.
Ceremony Begins When Ceremony Ends
We often say that once our final prayers are said and the ceremonial circle is closed, it is as if a clock starts ticking… tick tock… tick tock… every second that passes, this profound journey begins to fade away and soon enough remains but a faint memory of a distant dream. This profound clarity we just experienced will soon be clouded with our day-to-day responsibilities, duties, kids, social media, and to-do lists...
First, it is important to understand that it takes about 72 hours for the sacrament to completely leave our bodies. Within these days you might still have strong dreams, profound insights, and inner guidance. Other than the rapid spiritual expansion and changes, and due to the biological and chemical process that is involved in taking the sacrament, expect a drop in serotonin, which means it is likely that you will be more sensitive, moody, tired, gloomy, and irritable. We highly recommend not making any profound life changes such as relationship choices, moving to another home or country, or having life-altering conversations. Wait… give yourself the proper time to center and ground. We often call this period of time “ceremony blues”; it is a short window of time the body, mind, and heart require in order to integrate, heal, and recover.
These three days, post-ceremony, are an invitation to slow down, relax, and dedicate time to self-care and introspection. Taking time to replenish your body will greatly support you in this process of integration. A massage, a hot bath, eating nourishing whole foods, lots of hydration, and lots of sleep will allow your body to rejuvenate and recover.
We close our ceremonies with a powerful prayer, calling for Health in the Body, Peace in the Spirit, and Love in the Heart. Three powerful pillars to support the integration of our work. Let’s explore each one of these powerful gateways that guide this process and lead us to our spiritual growth.

Health in the Body
Understanding the process of the physical part of integration, requires a few layers of attention. First, the bio-chemical process, which relates to the depletion of minerals, the need for hydration, and sleep that our bodies need in order to recover from the weekend of ceremonies. It is very important to hydrate properly and infuse the body with electrolytes, potassium, and magnesium. It is also recommended to use bath scrub salts when you shower, especially on the back of your neck.
Choosing foods that are whole, unprocessed and follow the recommended dietary guidelines will ensure your body recovers quickly. Make sure to take the necessary supplements that will support you in balancing your micro and macronutrients, as well as staying hydrated; these are the first steps to your physical self-care. It is important to remember that with hydration, it is imperative to supplement with minerals, so you are not flushing the cells of the minerals but rather hydrating and maintaining the mineral balance the cells require.
During the ceremony, the sacrament often acts as an x-ray machine… exposing and showing you areas in your body that require more attention and healing. If you pay attention, you might notice specific areas that hold more pain or tension, perhaps a toothache or a specific location of pain along your spine. During the ceremony, we call on Dr. Spirits. these are healers and doctors in the astral that support the physical healing and regeneration of the body. Listen to their guidance, listen to the pains and aches that show up in the ceremony; they are often guiding you to take action, such as going see a dentist, a chiropractor, or a specialist to help support your healing process.
These physical pains can also point to unresolved or unexpressed emotions that require your attention and care. Participating in a sacramental ceremony with Ayahuasca is a psycho-spiritual-somatic experience. This means your spirit, your psyche, your mind, and your body are all working together to evolve, heal, and awaken. Working with someone who specializes in somatic therapy, helping you identify this and help it move through your body, could be very useful to your growth, healing, and journey. We’ll address the spiritual, psychological, and mental aspects next.
As mentioned above, drops in our serotonin levels can often lead to “ceremony blues.” we can support this by using 5HTP, natural melatonin, or magnesium for sleep. You can also use a topical magnesium oil or spray for topical relief of pain of tension. Here are a few of our recommendations:
- Nutricost 5-HTP 200mg (For mood balancing and sleep) - Amazon.com
(We recommend taking the 5HTP for the duration of all three days post-ceremony, especially at night right after the second ceremony ends.) - Horbäach P-5-P Activated Vitamin B6 100mg (For mood balancing and sleep) - Amazon.com
(We recommend taking the 5HTP for the duration of all three days post-ceremony, especially at night right after the second ceremony ends. - MagSoothe Powder Packets (Magnesium for sleep) - Amazon.com
- Topical Magnesium - Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil Spray - Amazon.com
- Life Extension Melatonin, 300 mcg (For sleep) - Amazon.com
- Abra Therapeutics Cellular Detox Body Scrub (Showering) - Amazon.com
- Trace Minerals (Mineral supplementation for water) - Amazon.com
Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
Walking, swimming, biking, running, hiking, exercise, Yoga, and dance are supportive in these post-ceremony days. Prioritizing movement in our bodies is important to our everyday health in life. Even more so after ceremonies. Movement can help us release stuck energy, circulate the blood, and clean the lymph. Movement allows us to raise our energy levels naturally and harmoniously during the integration process.
It is important to note that if you are used to a vigorous workout routine, it is not uncommon to feel a lot of fatigue right after a weekend of ceremonies. Understanding that this fatigue won’t last forever and listening to the needs of your body during these next few days is very important. Honor your body and its needs if it asks for rest - rest without guilt or shame. Often, a part of this journey revolves around listening to our bodies more. If weightlifting or high-intensity training is something you are accustomed to doing but you find no energy or strength for at this time, try substituting your practice with Yoga or a walk in nature.
Into the Forest I Go, to Lose My Mind and Find My Soul
Ayahuasca is called the Queen of the Forest; she comes to us from the plant kingdom, or in her case, the plant Queendom; she reminds us that in order to find our truest nature, we have to find our way back to Mother Earth, back to nature. Grounding our feet in the earth, strolling through a lively forest, and bathing in the ocean can often offer us more than any other healing modality. The essential teaching of walking life with Ayahuasca is the return to nature. The Umbanda tradition is one of the core foundational teachings of our church. Learning how to personify and form a deep relationship with the forces of nature. Allowing their presence to teach and guide us, console, heal, and awaken our soul.
"My soul can find no staircase to heaven
unless it be through the Earth."
~ Michelangelo
Throughout my years of study with the indigenous tribes in Brazil, I’ve often asked for advice on how to grow in walking this path, how to teach, and how to learn. The answer I almost always receive is -- plant your feet in the earth…
Grounding, literally, coming with our feet to the earth is one of the most important things we can offer our bodies in this process of integration. Allowing nature to take us in and remind us of this innate connection to life itself.
Nature allows us to rebalance our internal mechanisms, harmonize our physical body, and soothe our nervous system. Allowing for an organic recalibration of the intense sensory input we have gone through during the ceremonies.
Choose to walk away from screens, social media, and technology, even if for just a short while. Allow yourself to reconnect to nature and allow its silent presence to satiate your soul. Get out into the fresh air, lie down on the earth, touch the leaves of a tree, and smell the nearby flowers. As simple as this sounds, the open sky and the vastness of life itself can help you calm, recenter, and find your peace.
A Prayer for Grounding Spirit
Dear God, my heart has expanded to all corners of the universe; my soul has been diving into the lake of unified consciousness. I’ve been growing in spirit and soaring within my infinite skies. Life’s deepest secrets have been revealing themselves to me; I am filled with guidance and direction. I feel my heart is aligned with my highest purpose and the knowing that I feel within is guiding my every step.
Surrounded by this light and beauty, I wish never to forget my place within the Divine Plan. I wish never to forget the necessity of integrating these lessons. May I continue assisting this light to shine upon the darkness and illuminate the night with my star-filled prayers. I wish to use my hands and feet in service of humanity. I wish to plant new seeds and walk the paths of humility and care. May my words be a reflection of my service; may my illuminated heart be seen in all I do and all I offer.
Dear God, the profundity of these Angelic messages is so vast. So many words have been spoken and sung, attempting to describe this celestial beauty. Poets and lovers, philosophers, and teachers - all trying to express your glory, all finding their way to capture but a glimpse of the one central sun. I wish to let their words change me. I want to allow their light to pour over me so I may transform.
As I ascend to the heights of the Tree of Life, I wish to bear fruit and grow my roots back into the earth. I want to offer this abundant flow back to where it is needed most. I am surrounded by wealth and beauty and wish to share it with my brothers and sisters who need to be fed, need to be nourished and need to be helped. I want to plant trees and offer my hands to clean our forests. I wish to pray for the waters and offer myself in assistance to purifying our sacred oceans.
Dear God, give me so I can offer. Purify me so I can serve. Let my growth depend on my capacity to give back. Shower me with teachings that I can integrate and offer to my surroundings, back to nature, back to my family, my friends, and all of humanity. Let each and every morsel of light be used to feed the hungry and each prayer to soothe an aching friend. My heart beats with the earth, and my soul soars with the angels of love. Let my heart be a bridge between the heavens and the earth, a rainbow of faith and a beacon of eternal love.

Peace in the Spirit
We often say that the ceremony truly begins when the ceremony ends. When the excitement subsides and there are no distractions. We are left to ourselves, and the journey of integration can truly begin. Though, as mentioned before, integration is an innate and natural process and does happen on its own, we can choose to be proactive and take conscious action to support it and, at the very least, create the space for this process to occur in a more natural and harmonious way.
With and while taking care of the ‘Health in the Body,’ you want to be in an environment that promotes ‘Peace in the Spirit.’ Declutter your room, listen to meditative music, light candles, and perhaps light some incense. Try to create an atmosphere that will inspire mental peace and quiet.
Perhaps the most supportive tool to allow mental and spiritual integration is journaling. I can’t emphasize this enough. Ideally, you wrote in your ceremony journal during the ceremonies. Even if in bullet point form. Now that you are back home to your natural environment, go back to your journal and get inspired to write further. What questions have risen during this weekend? What answers have been received? What can you explore further… what got inspired for you in relation to your life, to your relationships, to your spiritual journey? Don’t necessarily expect all of your intentions to be fulfilled. More often than not, you find even more profound questions to be asked and further depth to explore. Ayahuasca is helping us become more sincere and more in touch with our unearthed truth. Write without judgment or expectations. Allow this natural flow to occur.
Another wonderful practice to support this process is active creativity. Drawing, painting, singing, dancing, and even cooking can spark your mind into a deeper process of reflection and release. Try something new, create for no reason, and just enjoy your time and senses. More often than not, profound insights arise when we least expect them to and definitely when we allow the mind its creative freedom.
As you open the space for integration to occur, allow yourself to observe the totality of your emotions, your fears, your smallness, your excitement, your awe, and your greatness. Nothing requires immediate action and response. Trust in the process and allow your heart to lead the way. Let the grass grow by itself… We often have an urge to react to all that we saw and experienced. To share with others and get validation for this grand happening that stirred our souls. From many years of personal experience, my suggestion is… time… and patience. Letting these seeds of truth grow root and strengthen. Be gentle with yourself and allow the process to organically reveal from the inside out.
When the seed in the earth starts to sprout, it cannot yet imagine that it will one day become a tree. It just trusts and aspires to rise above its own limitations. Breaking free from his own shell and slowly ascending into the unknown presence of the sun. Though poetic, this is a very accurate description of this integrative process. It is slow… organic… and filled with faith, trusting in an unknown reality that is slowly coming to view. I once asked one of my teachers – “how do I grow faster on this path?” to which he replied – take it slow…
During the ceremonies and in the days that follow, often deeper layers of pain can arise and surface. The sacrament allows us to drop our defenses and deeply feel. It is common to feel fear, shame, anger, and grief. Try not to be too harsh with yourself and allow your feelings to guide your process. (We’ll discuss help and support in the following section about Love in the Heart). Open yourself to trusting in your own knowing and accepting yourself for all that you are. And again, take your time and give yourself the space needed for this unearthing of all that you are to just be.
More often than not, Ayahuasca will uncover and show us what we call karmic hooks or karmic debts. These are lingering ties we have in our lives, whether these are unkept promises, relationships without closure, or even conversations where we haven’t been truthful or truly expressed our truth. Once you’ve waited for a few days, allowing your integration to take its place and your body to recover and rest, you might feel inspired to look deeper into these karmic debts and slowly find the way to resolve and find closure. Whether directly reaching out to people in your life or even just writing about it in your journal, allowing these forgotten promises to come more to the front of your awareness and, by that, lead to new and better choices.
For most of us, drinking Ayahuasca can be so fascinating. Often, as we make our first steps on this path, we want to learn more, understand more, and experience even further. There are many resources and so much available to us to begin this study. There are a few foundations to the study we do in Celestial Heart. The realms of spirit, mediumship, and the inner journey that opens to us as we expand our consciousness.
There are a few foundational resources we love to share:
- Movies such as Astral City by Chico Xavier, Kardec, The Cokeville Miracle, and Surviving Death are a few really great starting points.

Love in the Heart
We believe that Ayahuasca is meant to be served within a sacred ceremony in a sacred circle. We come together to connect within a current – an esoteric and energetic connection to remind us of the circle of life. We practice our devotion in connection to each other, we rely on our brothers and sisters for support. This connection exists before, during, and after the ceremony.
It is so supportive to have a community of like-minded and like-hearted people around you that you can reach out to for support. Your brothers and sisters in the community understand what a life-changing journey this might have been for you and are happy to share their own journey with you as well.
To those who have drunk of the sacrament, no explanation is necessary;
to those who did not, no explanation will suffice.
It is important to understand that in reaching out to family and friends who have not gone through this rite of passage into the astral, you might be confronted with confusion, apprehension and even fear. Those around you who are witnessing these profound changes in you post-ceremony might not be able to hold space and understand your process. It will be helpful to keep in contact with others who walk this path beside you. Our community is here for you. We have many WhatsApp groups, integration calls, integration groups and community events that are there to support this process.
Also, please take into heart, though profound and life-changing, coming into this devotional practice of drinking Ayahuasca is a response to a calling of the soul; it does not fit everyone, and recommending others to join and experience might not actually be the most supportive act of kindness. Trust that you teach most by personal example, let your actions speak louder than words. Allow your integration to take root in your behaviors, in your acts of kindness, and in your service to humanity; that will be the most inviting act of all.
One of the teachings of Ayahuasca is the willingness to ask for help. One of the names of Ayahuasca in Brazil is Santo Daime – Holy Give Me... guiding us to learn how to express our needs and speak our truth. Trusting in our strength as we stand in our weakness. Ayahuasca reminds us that reaching out for support is a courageous act and will only bring about more connection and intimacy.
You don’t have to do this alone. Reach out to the community, and if you feel you need further support, seek out therapy and mentorship, allowing yourself to be guided and held through these transformative teachings. All of our teachers in Brazil recommend meditation and therapy in addition to working with the sacrament. Reflection and external support can speed up the process of integration and help you understand yourself even more.
In drinking the sacrament, one of the most profound experiences is our connection to life, to God, and to each other. We believe the sacrament to be the “blood and water” of Mother Earth, coming at these challenging times to awaken humanity to remind us of our innate connection and bring us closer together. Awakening the dormant love within our hearts and reminding us that we are all sons and daughters of the earth.
We often say that we drink Ayahuasca in order to fall in love with ourselves, to ignite the divine spark that has been dormant inside of our Celestial Heart. Try to focus on gratitude, on giving thanks to yourself, to your friends and family, to the circle of life, and the angelic support that is all around you. In walking this path, gratitude becomes our northern star, our closest friend, and our companion in the dark. It is the most precious key that unlocks all doors, the “philosopher’s stone” that holds the mystery of the way of the heart. As your integration carries on, we recommend keeping a gratitude journal, a way to reflect on the magic that takes place within your soul.
A Prayer of Integration
Dear God, I have grown and expanded, traveled within and without. I have seen the miraculous nature of life itself and allowed my sense of self to envelop the mystery of the Great Unknown. There is so much to sing and write, so much I feel I have to express in my feeble attempt at capturing all of this wisdom. Help me trust that I can integrate these teachings into my life. Help me remember that I am divinely guided and that I am never alone.
I ask to remember to plant these seeds; I ask to make the changes and shifts my awakening consciousness requires from this sense of growth. I ask for the courage to face my truth; I ask for resolve and purpose as I choose anew and embrace this new beginning. May I live with a renewed sense of faith, and may I trust in this unfoldment. I pray to remember that I was guided here, and if so, that I have all I need to keep on walking.
Dear Angels and Cosmic Beings of Awakening, guide my vision and stir my fiery spirit. Help me hold these lessons to the altar of my heart. Allow these teachings to awaken my slumbering spirit. I wish to awaken and sleep no more. I wish to face my darkness and embrace my light. My heart is full, and my emotions are overflowing with gratitude and peace. May this moment be one of celebration and a reminder of the ever residing I AM Presence within my core.
I ask to stay fixed within these resolutions; I ask to hold on to these lessons as I walk further and ask for more. I ask for humility and for the will to integrate these teachings fully so that my journey will not be in vain and so that all pain and any challenges I have experienced can truly bear fruit. If in climbing this peak I have caused pain or suffering to others, please God, I ask that you soothe and console, comfort and bring solace.
Dear God, my heart is vibrating with the fullness of feeling your presence by my side. My soul is trembling with the connectedness I feel within my core. I am in gratitude for your care and in awe of this grand adventure we have embarked on together. I pray this journey will never end; I pray this friendship will always blossom. As I find myself, I find you; as I find you, I integrate and find my wholeness.
And so it is.
Integration is an endless process; it is the process of giving an empowering meaning to our lives and choosing growth above all else. We are closing this guide with the Prayer of Integration with the hope that these words vibrate within your heart and invite you to further opening and further transformation.
We are here to walk this path beside you and are available to support you in any way you need. This path is made to be walked together as part of an awakening circle of souls thirsty for the awakening of humanity. May we all choose to be conscious participants in the awakening and healing process of Mother Earth.
Thank You, Life.
